Everyone is always selling something, even if you are not in sales. You are always selling yourself. Relationships need to built. Sales is meeting people half way. 

Make sure that you are asking for the sale. Always be closing, but make sure that you are not verbally vomiting on people.

Another tip is to follow up with people, both for the sale and even after the sale. Be genuine. Be human and learn from each interaction.
