Instagram Security

Three new features were added to Instagram to help users feel more secure. These changes will give users more control of how they interact with others using the service.

The three changes include the ability to turn off comments for individual posts, remove followers on private accounts, and support for comment liking.

To set up comment disabling, head over to the “Advanced Settings” section before you create a new post and select “Turn Off Commenting.” Don’t worry, you can go to the menu after posting to turn the comments.

Instagram Update

Next up is liking comments. I think that this has been long overdue. Facebook has had this a while. Being able to show a commenter that you like their comment goes a long way.

Lastly, if you have a private account, you will be able to remove people that you allowed to follow you. There might be times where you want to remove a follower, but did not have the means in the past. To remove a follower, you can click on the “…” menu next the followers user name. The user will not be notified.

Another item worth noting is that users will be able to report signs of self harm, and do so anonymously. This is good in that users can make report of anyone that might be at risk for suicide or hurting themselves. Even though this feature was rolled out last Fall, they are bringing attention to it now.

These changes are set to roll out over the next few weeks.
