Twitter may seem easy, but there is more to it than meets the eye. You just need an account and send out tweets, right? The answer is no. If you want to use Twitter to help your social campaigns there are three thinks that you need to do all the time.

  1. Follow other people – You will want to follow other people so that you can re-tweet their tweets, possibly mention them and include them in activities such as Follow Friday. If you mention someone and you are not following them, the person will not take the mention as seriously and may not engage in a conversation with you.

  2. Provide Value – There is nothing worse that seeing tweets about what people are eating, learning about how I can become rich on the internet, or how I can receive a free iPad to test. You will want to provide value so that your followers will read your tweets and keep coming back for more. You should tweet out links to blog articles (your own if you can), studies, links to whitepapers, quotes and other bits of information that provide knowledge and learning to your followers.

Be Thankful – Make sure to thank those that re-tweet you and mention you in a tweet. It makes them feel valued and they will probably continue to support you. Reply back to questions and thank them for asking or apologize if there was an issue. Make them feel that reaching out to you was important and that you value their input. The information you receive may help you improve your business.

If you follow these three tips, you will find yourself on the way to Twitter success. Make sure to keep your communication interesting and frequent. Good luck!
